About
Planning for the public benefit
We are committed to supporting more equitable and sustainable, locally-led development outcomes by mobilising the planning and allied professions for public benefit.
We work in partnership with community and not-for-profit organisations, and with communities experiencing inequity or systemic barriers to accessing planning and allied resources.
Our approach is relationship-led, strengths-based and grounded in local knowledge and priorities. Through pro bono contributions of skills, experience and resources, we support communities and local partners to progress their own priorities and development goals.
We work across Australia and internationally, while building a strong pro bono culture across the planning and allied professions.
Who we support
We work with community and not-for-profit organisations, community groups and local partners in Australia. Our support is directed to locally identified priorities, projects and cases where planning and allied resources can add value and contribute to public benefit.
Internationally, we work with counterparts and partners who wish to collaborate, share knowledge or are seeking support with locally identified priorities and projects.
We respond to local priorities, challenges and aspirations.
Our Talent Bank
Pro Bono Planners and allied professionals are individuals and firms which come from a broad range of backgrounds and experience to support communities achieve their development objectives in the public interest.
Our Talent Bank includes:
- Retired planners and allied professionals with deep knowledge and capacity to continue to practice
- Planners who wish to extend their experience in sectors and settings beyond what their “normal day job” provides
- Planners and allied professionals who are keen to enhance their professional development, working in teams or individually on projects that make a difference
- Planners and allied professionals who are keen to work closely with community on sustainable projects that are important to them
- Students keen to be mentored by an experienced planner on a pro-bono project
- Organisations, such as consulting firms that see the advantages of establishing their profile in the pro-bono space
- Urban and regional planners, architects, experts in heritage and conservation, environmental planners and ecologists, lawyers, engineers, social and economists, urban designers, building and land surveyors and other allied professions

Working alongside not-for-profit organisations, community groups or individuals seeking assistance through Pro Bono Planners Australia, we assist with:
- Projects generated by community organisations or not-for-profits aimed at public good or public interest outcomes
- Supporting disadvantaged and marginalized communities with little access to planning and allied professions
- Assisting individuals and groups on planning cases that seek an outcome for the public good and in the public interest
- Working with and supporting international counterparts across the Indo-Pacific and beyond by sharing knowledge and experience, as invited
